Dr. K. S. Vaishali lives in Bangalore, and is the disciple of R. V. Seshadri Gavai, who belonged to a music school founded by the musical saint Gana Yogi Panchakshari Gavai of Gadag in Karnataka, India. This school currently imparts music lessons to hundreds of blind students, supported by a grant from the Ford Foundation. Vaishali is also a disciple of Kishori Amonkar, a highly regarded vocalist of today. Like Manjushree Kherde above, Vaishali holds a "Sangeeta Visharada" degree in Hindustani vocal music from one of the pioneering music universities of India founded by Vishnu Digambar Paluskar, who was instrumental in bringing classical music instruction to the masses in India in the early 20th century. Vaishali also holds a Ph.D. in English Literature, and is a Reader at the Department of English Studies of Bangalore University.
