Scholarship problems due to status in U.S.

I don't know if I sould be sharing something like this on a public forum but I dunno...I am just a student with a problem, lol. okay well on a serious note, I need help with this scholarship that im getting. The problem is that I am not a citizen here in the United States but my case is under the process. I recently graduated from high school and I am taking some college classes this summer for which I am getting a scholarship(for academics and graduating w/ college credit) BUT, I am being told that the scholarship will not be given to me due to my status in the U.S. because my visa expired and it has been sent for a renewal, I can't do much. I also don't have a SS#(which is needed to get the scholarship). So, what should I do if by the time I am done with the classes that im taking this summer and I haven't received an answer from the INS. If I can get my renewed visa then I can get the SS# too because I've got some letters from my principle from high school and the advisor at college talking about how I need the SS# for education purposes. Is there any other way around?!??!?!

Hi, I would say, in this country one should have legal status to do anything. Hence you must have SSN. Goodluck tiger
